About us

What is the CFTC?

CFTC is a curriculum model, community of educators, and a resources hub for chemistry faculty practicing and interested in community-based learning (CBL) in their classrooms.  Begun as part of an NSF-funded project in 2019, CFTC’s goal is to continue to share best practices and vetted curriculum materials to both practitioners and newcomers to this active learning pedagogy.

Who we are

CFTC is a network for chemistry educators who are passionate about both meaningful learning in chemistry and serving the community.  The community began at Saint Joseph’s College of Maine with the work of Dr. Emily Lesher and Dr. Yi Jin Gorske, and has been augmented by the collaborative work of chemists around the country through a series of workshops devoted to community-based learning in chemistry (SJC 2023 and BCCE 2024).  We would love to add you to our growing membership and support you in your chemistry CBL efforts at your institution!

Your email address will not be published or shared with any other organizations.  All materials uploaded to the website will be reviewed and approved prior to publication.
